Whilst we do not break the ice by talking about the weather here customarily, I find myself wanting to make some comment on the incredulous nature of our times. This is usually our hottest, dustiest season, yet we are still feeling the freshness of the air even in the arid, northern and humid, central conservancies of Kenya. Everywhere is verdant and wildlife exuberant. In this issue we went off the beaten track, looking for the remote but also the romantic. From the abundant jungles of Meru to the infinite stars of the night sky over Loisaba; and with Harriet Akinyi to travels stored in the many layers of our memories, to be shared around campfires – what’s not to love?

Mark Smeltz our newest contributor, gives us an intimate look at Cheetahs. As we bring you not just closer but right into the spirit of nature itself, do sit back, relax and merge with your experiences. I cannot think of anything else that would give me more joy.

Wishing you many happy journeys this year.
