kenya-at-the-summer-olympics-rio-de-janeiro-august-2016Jelagat Sumgong evaded an opposer who leapt onto the Rio marathon course on Sunday and became the first woman from Kenya to win Olympic marathon gold in two hours, 24 minutes and four seconds.

Eluid Kipchoge brought home the gold for the men’s marathon and in other races, Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot achieved gold for 5000m and the silver for 10,000m. David Rudisha kept the gold for 800m, Faith Kipyegon got gold for 1500m, Conseslus Kipruto got the gold for 3000m steeplechase.

Silver medals were won by Hyvin Jepkemoi for women’s 3000m steeplechase, Paul Tanui in 10,000m, Helen Obiri for 5000m and Julius Yego for his javelin throw.

Margaret Wambui achieved bronze for 800m.
